Profile

This study branch provides higher interdisciplinary education in the field of information security. The study plan combines technical fields, such as applied mathematics, cryptography, informatics, and humanities, especially law. Courses are provided by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Brno University of Technology. The aim of this branch is to fully prepare experts in the field of information security who will be able to technically carry out mechanisms and systems of cyber security with respect to the Czech and international legislation´s requirements. This aim is achieved thanks to the integration of advanced courses covering the theory of communication systems, modern cryptography and theoretical informatics which are followed by practical courses focusing on particular information and communication technologies (ICT). To broaden the knowledge, students choose subjects from other branches of master´s degree programmes at FEEC BUT, the language subjects and general knowledge subjects. Master´s degree programme can be studied after successfully completing Bachelor´s degree programme (with Bachelor´s Diploma Thesis), preferably in a study programme focusing on information security.

Key learning outcomes

The graduates acquire theoretical and practical skills necessary for practice in the field of information and communication technologies security. As far as the theoretical fundamental is concerned it is the knowledge of applied mathematics, advanced statistics, theoretical informatics and the theory of communication systems. An emphasis is put on the knowledge of the methods of advanced cryptography. The graduates also acquire knowledge of law disciplines related to ICT security. Theoretical knowledge is supported by practical skills gained by using equipment and systems used to ensure ICT security in practice.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

The graduates are qualified for job positions in private and public sector focused on security of information and communication technologies (ICT). These job positions include developers and administrators of large ICT systems, security auditors and analytics, penetration and load testers, security policy managers, forensic analytics, cryptologists or research and development workers in the field of ICT security. The knowledge acquired in the field of ICT law enables the graduates to work in the positions of state administration or security services ensuring compliance with valid legislation related to information security. Thanks to the extensive theoretical fundamentals and experience in operating security technologies the graduates are ensured with high adaptability to the specific requirements of their future professional practice in other similar fields.

Entry requirements

The condition for admitting is a completed Bachelor’s degree and passing the written examination from the field of the informatics and law foundations.
