Course detail

Current Trends in Designing Inner Space

FA-AAP-KAcad. year: 2020/2021

The course introduces current approaches in the design of inner space on particular architectural projects. Students will apply the theoretical knowledge from their previous studies and use their studio designs, and also strengthen their abilities to create independent and current architectural expression. Final realization of spatial fragments based on the theoretical conclusions will provide an immediate possibility of self-reflection and thus creates a necessary precondition for independent architectural practice.
In the study programme “Architecture and Urban Design” the course is part of the technical courses.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

– Students will learn about current trends in inner space creation.
– Students will be able to discuss the timelessness of architectural creation, architectural trends, or so called “fashionable architecture”.
– Students will try to design a fragment of current space with a relevant material and structural solution.
– Students will be able to confront their work with the theoretical conclusions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The lectures of the theoretical part are the basis for the student proposal of current space design.
During the seminars of the practical part, students realise a fragment of their design of inner space using the corresponding material and construction. The final work is retrospectively confronted with the theoretical conclusions.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The evaluation is based on the elaboration of a written and graphical document for individual topics, complemented with photographic documentation and sketches.
