Maintenance Quality/Reliability Management

The subject is focused on the most advanced knowledge in today’s reliability and quality management in maintenance. The emphasis is mainly put on reliability and quality management as well as maintenance and finance management, in addition to that the selected maintenance policy taking into account the economic point of view, maintenance performance and their evaluation using the operational reliability. The students will be also familiarized with new approaches, for example, application of outsourcing, insourcing and benchmarking in maintenance. Also, the claims in maintenance are discussed, and attention to maintenance focused on failure-free operation and complex productive maintenance is devoted. The risk management in maintenance and the human factor in maintenance are analyzed. The computer support of maintenance management is also discussed. The lectures are completed with seminars in which the most important issues are practised on the examples from industrial practice. The discussions are opened to results and conclusions in seminars.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student acquires comprehensive and complex theoretical knowledge of maintenance quality/reliability management which can apply in industrial mechanical/electrical engineering practice to solve different problems related to the aforementioned topics.


Knowledge of mathematics and physics at a level of university study. Also, the knowledge of the aforementioned special field in a scope of the previous bachelor study and Reliability I and Service and Maintenance of Machines subject is expected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The subject consists of lectures, seminars and seminars with computing technology. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The subject is scored by the credit and the students have to pass the examination. To get the credit, 100% presence will be required in seminars and the students will have to submit the project on a selected issue chosen from the subject syllabus. The project will be assigned during the first tutorial, and its range is up to 20 pages of typed text including figures. The project may be submitted even during the semester. The examination will be in a written form and it will be scored and graded according to the ECTS grading scale.

The objective of the subject is to acquire the knowledge of maintenance quality/reliability management. The subject partly continues in Reliability I subject as well as Theory of Maintenance in the framework of the bachelor’s study.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The lectures are governed in compliance with the methods and the grading criteria of the subject. In case of missed lectures, a spare programme after agreement with the lecturer will be agreed in reasonable cases for a student.
