Structural and Industry Geodesy

Basic terms of structural geodesy.
Measurement errors, accuracy measures of 1D and 2D quantities, fundamentals of setting out accuracy analyses.
Precise methods of angle, distance, and height measurements.
Horizontal and vertical setting out methodology. Setting out drawings.
Setting out control networks.
Geodesy in designing and in construction phase of structures.
Deformation measurements of structures.
Contemporary progressive geodetic measuring technologies (Global satellite navigation systems, Laser scanning).

Learning outcomes of the course unit
The graduate obtains extended knowledge of applications of geodesy in civil engineering. The graduate is able:
- to perform the basic accuracy analyses of measurement and setting out
- to apply the methodology of distance, angle and height setting out including accuracy analyses
- to perform the setting out of arcs and transition curves
- to describe the methods of deformation measurements of structural objects

Basic knowledge of mathematics and geodesy.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures, practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at lectures is optional, but attendance at classes is compulsory.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Attendance in accordance with BUT Rules for Studies. Submission and acceptance of single tasks protocols is mandatory. Passing the final written test. Successful test passing is conditioned by at least 50% right answers to test questions.

3. Precise levelling. Setting out of angles, distances, and heights.
4. Basic methods of horizontal and vertical setting out.
5. Setting out drawings. Setting out control networks. Geodesy in designing and realization of structures.
6. Deformation measurements. Underground surveying.
7. Progresive geodetic measuring technologies (Global satellite navigation systems, Laser sscanning, Photogrammetry).
