Workshop - Visual Design II

FSI-YV2Acad. year: 2014/2015

The subject develops approach to design process submissions of visual design applications through students teamwork, which corresponds both to higher difficulty and intensity and enter the higher required range of work in comparison to individually executed projects.
Examples of project themes:
Task 1)
- Product/subject/event/service advertising campaign - static
- Promotion and advertising printed matters
- Catalogue
- Template Website
- User interface software (GUI)
Task 2)
- Multimedia work (video, commercials, jingles, etc.)
- An interactive advertising campaign product/subject/event/service (internet presentations, DVD / BluRay, etc.).
During the semester, 2-3 exclusive one day tasks on a specific topic are submited.

The course has been created with the support of the OPVK project. "The Studio digital sculpture and new media project", reg. No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0278, is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students learn teamwork in the processing of complex communication designer input. Adjusting the resulting work should correspond to the real visual design project commission, which includes the final output in printed form or on an optical medium.

Prerequisites

Students must be proficient in drawing and working with 2D graphics (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw) applications. It is required a basic knowledge of 3D (Rhinoceros 3D, Autodesk 3D Studio MAX) and multimedia (Adobe Premiere, Adobe Flash) applications. Required is knowledge of prepress, printing technologies, work with multimedia.
The course follows the "YV1 Workshop - Visual Design I" and "YG1-A Workshop - Graphic Design".

Creative work in ateliers.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded course-unit credit requirements: attendance at lessons, handing over assigned projects by the deadline in a sufficient quality. Presentation of an elaborated project. Design and the level of presentation of each project are evaluated separately.
Work will incl. source files completely delivered in electronic format, incl. Upload data to a virtual gallery of work.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The aim is to develop the field of perception in the broader context of interdisciplinary relations and the role of designer in the process of product realization. The course aims to outline the relationship between graphic design and subjects that affect the design in the production of visual communications practice. Students will gain experience in teamwork, project-oriented teaching.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in workshop is controlled. Students have to be present in scheduled hours in the workshop, work on assigned projects and wait for consultation, unless a lecturer gives other individual plan. Students are obliged to inform the lecturer in advance about his/her working-place in the scheduled education time (studio, workshops, modelling room or college dormitory, home, producer etc.) - as absence is not excused without this information. The excuse of absence is possible only due serious reasons such as illness. Unexcused absence may jeopardise accepting a project.
