Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will understand general principles of disposal of wastewaters from buildings and potable water supply for buildings. Students will be able to do standard designs of sanitary and storm water drainage systems and water supply systems having in mind layout and construction of buildings. Further they will be able to design service pipes for these installations. Students gain knowledge for sizing of drainage system, water system and service pipes with the ability of preparing relevant technical drawings. Students will be able to use this knowledge for complex design of buildings.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge about constructional systems of buildings, foundation, vertical, horizontal and roof structures, fundamentals of hydromechanics, fundamentals of water supply and sewerage, basic theoretic knowledge of direct and alternating current.

Co-requisites

Basic knowledge about properties of soils, water in soils, settlement of soils. Basic knowledge about concrete and brick constructions of buildings.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. The lectures include elaboration of basic principles, design methods and standard cases solutions. During practices the students practice calculations and relevant solutions for individually submitted building. They can see models of building services systems and its accessories in the department laboratory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Compulsory attendance at practices. Recommended attendance at lectures. Elaboration of individual project within specified terms. Project submission in the credit week. Fulfilment of written exam at a satisfactory grade.
