Russian for pre-intermediate students

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will achieve a pre-intermediate level of Russian both in vocabulary and grammar. Then they will be able to read, translate and make slightly difficult Russian texts. Students will be able to discuss the following topics – classes, orientation in the city, means of transport, shopping, Moscow and Petersburg, Prague. Students will master the following Russian grammar – prepositional phrases, inflexion of nouns and pronouns, conjugation of verbs, infinitive, inanimate and animate nouns, indeclinable nouns.
The target level of Russian is A2- (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Prerequisites

Students should master Russian alphabet well, vocabulary and conversation on the following topics - introducing, phoning, basic information about myself, nationalities, on a visit, family, jobs, free time, hobbies, school. Students should accomplish the following grammar - numerals, conjugation of verbs, reflexive verbs, inflexion of nouns and pronouns, date, past tense, using "vy" when addressing a person.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods


Grammar and vocabulary is practised in an interactive way, with emphasis on conversation. Development of communication and listening skills using interactive audio-visual technologies.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to receive their credits, students need to attend classes regularly (max. 3 absences per semester), do homework and actively participate in the lessons.

6.L3-Means of transport, infinitive clauses, revision of grammar and vocabulary, additional text, role playing
7.L4-Shopping, dialogues, exercises, conjugation of verbs "buy, ask, take", 1st and 2nd case of plural number of some nouns
8.L4-Shopping, clothes, flowers, food, flexible "-o-,-e-" in nouns, 4th case of plural number of inanimate and animate nouns, revision
9.L5-Moscow - sights, texts, exercises, inflexion of nouns (neuter gender, singular number)
10.L5-Petrohrad - sights, texts, exercises, indeclinable nouns, prepositional phrases (after) - summary
11.L6-Prague - sights, dialogues, 1st and 2nd case of plural number of nouns (feminine, neuter gender)
12.L6-Prague, exercises, text, inflexion of nouns in plural – summary
13.Revision, summary, games, role playing
