Competitive Intelligence

The subject is focused on gaining the information about the competition by legal and ethic way. As main goal of this subject students should adopt the theoretical basics and methodic necessary for gaining the knowledge in terms of preparation and own acquiring information about competition. The adoption of analytical process of gained information is the emphasis in this course together with process of gaining the added value – the new awareness about the competition.

Students will get the knowledge about approaches of getting information about competitive firm.

Prerequisites

Process of corporate strategic management, analysis of domain environment of the company, analysis of corporate internal factors.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for passing an exam: Knowledge of taught topics and their practical application.
Form of examination: Combined – a written test possibly followed by an oral examination.

The main topics of the lectures are:
- Introduction, the offensive understanding of competitive strategies. The philosophy of an offensive strategies and battles. The basics of successful competing.
- The strategic importance of the information in competing. The understanding of information in competitive strategy.
- The estimation of the information needed for TOP management.
- The information sources, its gaining and analysis.
- The trade secret, information protection
- Business operations protection
- Disinformation in competing
- The specific information system of firm (Spefis)
- The organizational structure of Spefis
- The implementation of Spefis into the organizational structure of firm
- General and specific requirements for personal procurement of Spefis

Aims

The understanding of information systems dilemma necessary for gaining the information about competition and prove students with knowledge of legal competitive information gathering with its further evaluation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
