The contribution is divided into two parts. The first part describes results obtained from the electrical measurements of the DC diaphragm discharge with the focus on the discharge ignition. The determined breakdown voltage beheld into the range of 1100-1300 V in wide range of studied solution conductivities (50-1400 microS/cm) more or less independently on the electrolyte kind. The current at the breakdown was 20-50 mA and it linearly increased with the increase of solution conductivity. Results presented in the second part were focused on optical emission spectroscopy observations of the DC non-pulsed diaphragm discharge in various water solutions. It describes the dependence of the emission intensity of hydroxyl radicals and some atomic lines on the used electrolyte and its concentration.
