The mechanical activation can help reduce production costs and modify cordierite-based materials. In this study,the structure and electrical properties of the mechanically activated MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system havebeenanalyzed.ThemixturesofMgO-Al2O3-SiO2 powdersweremechanicallyactivatedinapla- netary ballmillfortimeperiodsrangingfrom0to160min.Structuralinvestigationswereperformedon the obtainedpowders.Theeffectsofactivationandatwo-stepsinteringprocessonthemicrostructure and crystalstructurewereinvestigatedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)andX-raydiffraction (XRD). ThethermalstabilitywasanalyzedusingDTA.Electricalmeasurementsshowedvariationsofthe dielectric constant(εr) andlosstangent(tan δ) asafunctionofthetimeofmechanicaltreatment.
