Leaving home is not easy. What made it easier for me the first time I came to the Czech Republic, is the fact that I lived in a very small, cosy and beautiful city close to Prague named Poděbrady. Since it is not as nearly as big as Brno, I found my flat in Poděbrady the very same day I got there. It was super easy, so after a few months, when I had to move to Brno, I just assumed that finding a place to live will be a piece of cake. But I was wrong. You just have to keep in mind that Brno is not a small city, and more importantly, it is a student city! That means that demand for an apartment rental is very high in August/September and that is why I recommend looking for apartments in advance. There are many real estate agencies where you can find your future home, so keep looking and I am sure that you will find something you like. And I will say it once again: before you even come to Brno make sure that you make some contacts online otherwise you will end up like me 2 years ago: living in hostels for weeks 😃. Now, maybe you are thinking of renting a room in dormitories. That is also a great option, I have many friends who live there, and rooms in BUT dormitories are quite spacy and well-equipped.

When you finally find a roof over your head, you can still feel homesick. And I am going to share one of my tips to make your new home really feel like home: bring things that are of a big importance to you and things that make you happy – such as your favourite book, pictures of you and your friends, flag from your country...

But remember: the home is not only the roof over your head and old memories. You are living in Brno now, which means that there are many things that you are going to experience here and that are going to make Brno your new home, and there are many people that you even haven't met yet, but those are people who you will probably remember by the rest of your life. University friendships are really amazing since we, students always have something to complain about and that is how great friendships start to develop 😃 It is not the truth that you can't have 2 or as many homes as you like. That is why, I hope that even though we always like to think about our past and places we came from because it's just the part of who we are; we can also make a place in our life for new stories and people. I hope that Brno will take place in your heart as one of many homes and stories that I wish you to have in your life!
