Specific admission requirements

Successful completion of a master's degree program in the field of fine arts or a master's degree related to the humanities and technical fields (such as architecture). Presentation of a written project of the future dissertation (including the sketch of the creative project); The project must contain a motivational introduction, a clearly formulated topic of the thesis, methods of research work and an overview of relevant literature. Successful completion of the admission procedure, in which the candidate demonstrates the ability of independent artistic work (on the basis of presented portfolio), or independent work in the field of contemporary art (documented publication, curatorial, production activity); Ability of the theoretically funded reflection of the chosen topic of work; Excellent expressing and formulation skills; Ability to study in at least one world language (verified during an interview).

Key learning outcomes

Cílem doktorského studia na FAVU je přispívat k rozvoji současného výtvarného umění jako kulturně a společensky významné oblasti jednání a vědění. Doktorské studium je jedinečným prostorem pro kultivaci individuálních, nicméně diskursivně zakotvených postojů. Doktorské studium je tak především prostorem svobody rozvíjet vlastní dispozice v dialogu s inspirativními kolegy a konzultanty, ale i studenty nižších stupňů studia, s nimiž doktorandi přichází do kontaktu v rámci vlastní pedagogické praxe. Důležitým cílem doktorského studijního programu je rovněž příprava budoucích pedagogů vysokých uměleckých škol. V průběhu studia je proto kladen důraz na pedagogickou praxi, která může mít podobu pedagogické asistence školiteli, včetně asistence u vedení či oponování prací, ale může rovněž spočívat ve vedení samostatných přednášek a seminářů (ideálně obsahově spojených se zaměřením doktorského studia).

The graduates of the doctoral study branch "Fine Arts and Artistic Operation" are distinguished personalities of the art world (artists, critics, historians or art theorists, curators and cultural producers, etc.). Being able to combine scientific and creative methods, an artistic artifact or a practice-oriented exhibition project during their studies gives them the best prerequisites for applying both in contemporary art and academia.
