The Ph.D. work will particularly focus on the prediction of the direction and speed of future movement of stations based on the knowledge of current network status, parameters of physical environment and statistical evaluation of the stations movement in the past. The predicted information about the expected movement of stations will be used for finding the optimal path from the source to the destination in terms of energy efficiency of the communication process. The majority of the nodes forming a MANET network are mobile and therefore they are usually powered by a battery supply. The Ph.D. work proposed focuses on the later requirement and its aim is to design an algorithm allowing realistic modelling of the behaviour of pedestrial and vehicular mobile end-stations in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) e.g. according to real maps. To achieve this goal the Ph.D. student should become familiar with the most often used algorithms designed to model the movement of network elements and compare their features. Next the characteristic of new wireless network technologies, able to build ad-hoc networks, should be studied and the key requirements on the handover process should be identified. The third step of the solution covers the behavioural analysis of real end-users. For this purpose a suitable tracking method for mobile stations should be designed, which will be able to derive the direction and speed of the moving station and the changes in these parameters with a given precision. At the same time a measuring method should be designed and implemented which will be able to identify the exact values of triggering parameters of the handover process. Based on the information obtained a modifications in the original movement modelling methods can be proposed to more exactly respect the behaviour of real users and specify more exactly the path of data flows in MANET networks.
