2. round (applications submitted from 24.10.2019 to 09.12.2019)
- Combined systems in treatment processes.
The doctoral thesis will be focused on the application of the Triton system in the biological stage of the wastewater treatment plant. The aim of the work is the system design methodology for mixing activation tanks that lack design experience. Use of the Flow 3D software is anticipated.
- Generation of artificial flow time series with considering on a non-stationary processes
Artificial flow time series are one of the extended hydrological inputs using for design of reservoir storage capacity for important water reservoirs. Climate change also give an strong assumptions about temporal redistribution of hydrological time series. The aim of this thesis will be to create a tool fo generating artificial flow time series, which will consider the time redistibution, respectively the non-stationarity of the hydrological series.
- Impact of non-stationary processes on hydrological time series
Climate change gradually affects the Czech Republic. The question remains, whether this change is step or gradual change. The aim of the PhD thessis will be using analysis of non-stacionary processes identify and describe the temporal variability of hydrological processes and on this basis estimated the flow time series in the future.
- Numerical Modelling of Water Flow near to Walls and Free Surface
Work will deal with numerical modelling of hydrodynamic phenomenon with a goal to verify factual and numerical accuracy of flows in watermanagement structures and their comparison with physical research. Focus will lay on influence of wall conditions and free surface.
- Water management analysis of reservoir capacity under aleatory and epistemic uncertainty
Aleotry uncertainties and epistemic uncertainties play an important role in proces of creating prediction, system design, and system management processes. The aim of this work will be to perform a complex water management analysis of reservoir in conditions aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties. Using Bayesian approach to define uncertainty and describe links and effects on a water management analysis of reservoir capacity.
To assess the reservoir yield performance the definition of reliability is used in the Czech Republic. Worldwide the new concepts of assessing the reservoir yield performance, such as risk, resiliance, vulnerability, have been defined over the past decade. The aim of this thesis will be to carry out an extensive state of art and application of these knowledge on a selected water reservoir. On the basis of obtained information also derive a new kind reservoir yield performance metric.
1. round (applications submitted from 05.06.2019 to 31.07.2019)
- Dam failures due to internal erosion in soils
The aim is to analyse the possibility of dam failure due to internal erosion. Failure modes and places of their origin will be assessed with the criteria used for the design and safety assessment. Uncertainties in input parameters will be assessed and the failure probability will be estimated via random sampling procedures. Partial aims are analysis of failure modes of water structures due to filter deformation, defining conditions of limit state and deriving partial reliability factors.
- Dam risk analysis
The aim is to propose, elaborate and verify the method for the assessment of risks coming from the existence and operation of dams. Appropriate risk-based method and corresponding tools will be chosen, e.g. event trees for individual types of hydraulic structures, probabilistic assessment for the initiating events using the statistical methods, the assessment of the vulnerability of system components. New trends in design standards and existing dam categorization will be taken into account.
- Decentralized wastewater collection and treatment for rural areas.
- Numerical modelling of flow at dam spillways
The flow at dam spillways is turbulent WITH high velocities and with significant aeration. The aim is to verify various turbulent models for the simulation of flow at selected types of spillways. The verification will be carried out by comparing numerical results with physical experiments and measurements at real structures during floods. The results will be a guidance on the use of numerical models for the simulation of flow at spillways, specification and estimate of uncertainties in results.
- Stormwater management in urban areas
The aim of the work is to develop new technical and non-technical measures for infiltration, retention and use of stormwater in urbanized areas. The work will focus on the issue of rainwater management on individual properties as well as on the public part of urban drainage. The work will be elaborated in relation to the solved projects related to this issue.
- Treatment of municipal wastewater by anaerobic MBR technology.
Goal of the thesis is development of technology of municipal wastewater by anaerobic process with aggregated biomass and sludge separation by means of submerged membrane module. Work will be focused on solution of problems connected with membrane clogging by operation, cleaning and process control.
- Use of algae for purification of wastewater with high content of nutrients.
Goal of the thesis is use of microalgae for purification of wastewater with high content of nutrients. Dissertation will be carried on research projects in cooperation with research center AdMaS and company Photon Systems Instruments. In the frame of research problems of process dimensioning and nutrients harvesting from algae will be solved. Results will be verified on real wastewaters.
