2. round (applications submitted from 30.10.2017 to 11.12.2017)
- Building physical aspects of tubular light guides
Tubular light guides are continuously improved because of the ever rising requirements put onto thermal comfort in interiors of buildings. This has some side effects, like the depreciation of their physical properties. Therefore it is required to create a comprehensive overview of building physical aspects of tubular light guides, which can be based on experiments and computer simulations. The conclusions then are bound to be incorporated into the concept of a modified tubular light guide.
- Development of rheological models of composite from recycled polymers
With the possibility of the use of composites from recycled polymers, such as thermal insulation block, there is a need to modify and improve existing rheological models. The development of models is depending on the way stress. The pressure stress is for that group of materials specifically load. Development models will be made on the basis of experimental prototypes monitoring the test samples with subsequent verification of FEA mathematical modeling.
- Ground-coupled Heat systems for Heating and Cooling of Buildings
PhD thesis focuses on the research use of land for energy for heating and cooling. The scope of work will be theoretical and experimental investigation of the thermal interaction between an building and ground and an optimal design of ground and foundation exchangers. The aim is to streamline obtaining geothermal energy of the elements of foundation structures and to develop a methodology for their design in the Czech Republic. The simulations can use the softwares CalA, TRNSYS, ANSYS Fluent.
- Indoor Climate and HVAC systems in Historical Buildings
Building services systems that create the quality of indoor environments in historical buildings, were linked with the optimal design of the building and use natural laws. The topic includes a research of systems of heating and ventilation systems in historic buildings, analysis, model creation, simulation of behavior, experimental measurements and determination of recommendations and guidelines for renovation and monument renewal.

Tutor: Hirš Jiří, prof. Ing., CSc.
- Influence of moisture on the floor layers
In engineering practice it is easy to come across failures of both water vapour permeable and non-permeable flooring finishes, where these failures are often caused by excess moisture. Whereas there are various flooring solutions available, it is expected that throughout the solution of the work the manifestations and phenomena causing the failures are going to be described for the most widely used floor finishes.
- Modeling and simulation of buildings and smart regions.
PhD thesis focuses on the modeling and simulation of intelligent buildings and smart regions. Effective use and placement of elements of ventilation, heating and cooling in buildings and their optimal control system. Systems, equipment and strategies for energy storage.
- Numerical Simulation of Heat Transfer in Civil Engineering
Theme of dissertation thesis is aimed at development, validation, verification and theoretical-experimental application of numerical models describing heat transfer in space and time. These space-time deterministic numerical models based on fundamental laws of Thermodynamics are useful in Civil Engineering for creation of indoor climate in buildings as well as for development of advanced energy systems in building.

- Optimization of thermally activated building structures
PhD thesis is focused on the optimization of Thermo Active Building Structures (TABS) used for heating and cooling buildings. Assumes the use of simulation methods, laboratory experiment and measurement INSITU. The aim is to provide recommendations for optimal design and control of TABS. The simulations can use the softwares CalA, TRNSYS, ANSYS Fluent.
- Optimizing the use of small decentralized sources of thermal energy for HVAC systems.
Optimizing the use of local decentralized sources of thermal energy, especially from renewable sources, combined with central regional resources and dynamic process of energy demand in buildings. Simulation and experiment.
Tutor: Hirš Jiří, prof. Ing., CSc.
- Pollution of internal and external surfaces in daylighting of buildings
Daylight factor calculations do incorporate the so called pollution coefficients for exterior, resp. interior side of daylighting system. The values of these coefficients were determined in 1994. Since then these coefficients are unchanged, despite the advances in lifestyle (number of cars on the road, fuel used in heating, etc.). Therefore the aim of the work would be to monitor how the actual lifestyle affects the pollution of surfaces and glazing, and lighting comfort in short and long terms.
- Possibilities of increase the roofs retention capacity
The topic of the dissertation thesis is a comprehensive analysis of the possibility of increasing the roofs retention capacity and drainage modification factors. The work will authenticate using full-scale experiments.
- Proposed measures to reduce the risk of degradation of mummies
Suitable geological composition of the soil in the basement of the church and unusually ingenious system of air vents allow the natural mummification of the dead, who were buried here. Within a few renovations, the original vents were damaged or submerged. Currently, several mummies damaged by microorganisms. The scope of work is to design measures to correct internal environment and the restoration of the original suitable microclimate. When the work will be used modern diagnostic methods and numerical models.
- Research of elements and systems of buildings services
Research of elements and systems of buildings services as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) will be conducted in order to achieve a thermal comfort in buildings at the minimum operating energy consumption. HVAC systems research will focus on optimizing of their design and operation with the use of low-potential thermal energy sources. The research will be conducted in its theoretical part by development of new mathematical-physical models, and by laboratory experiments and in situ measurements in an experimental part by using PIV method.

- Use of renewable energy sources in buildings
In the future, it is not possible to design buildings without the use of renewable energy and it is therefore necessary to explore the possibilities of using it. These are photovoltaics, solar panels, heat pumps with ambient energy, cogeneration, etc. At the same time, it is necessary to examine the possibilities of energy self-sufficiency of buildings.
