The existential function of a city is housing. People live when experiencing their own environment meaningful, when they are identifying with it and are able to orient themselves within. Housing therefore means more than just a shelter, including the fact that spaces in which life exists are the „places“ in the true sense (CH. N-Schulz). The topic consists of an analysis of new forms of organization of residential areas in contemporary cities with regard to meeting the current environmental and social needs and the influence on future cities development.
