Comics - History and Present - summer

FaVU-KOHISO-LAcad. year: 2010/2011

Series of lectures focused on specific means of expression of comics.
Lectures reflect:
1) Linear history of media (from the 19th century until the present time) with the samples of works by key authors
2) Critical reflection of comics (from the notes of Rudolp Topffer to present theoretic studies of Scott McCloud or Thierry Groensteen)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Development of comics from the first comic strips in English humoristic journals to contemporary graphic novels.
Connections and relations between comics and animated cartoons, literature and fine arts.

3) Comics in bookshops.
4) Comics in Czech lands (Czechoslovakia).
5) Comics in the 1980s and 1990s + Contemporary comics. Contemporary Czech comics.
