Chemistry and Technology of Paper Production

Sources of paper production, wood mass - cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose. Wood defibrilation, mechanical, chemical, and semichemical methods. Mechanism of delignification, sulphite, sulphate, and caustic delignification processes. Bleaching of fibers. Total exploitation of wood mass, preparation of paper stuff, glueing, fillers, paper colouring. Paper machine, production and properties of corrugated board, paper finishing. Testing of paper and paper products.

Aims

The objectives of the course „Pulp and paper technology“ are: Basic survey on manufacture, treatment and properties of papermaking fibres and various paper grades. An emphasis is put on the physico-chemical principles of industrial technologies. Macromolecular chemistry explanation of properties of raw materials, semi finished products and final products. Principal machinery and technology lines of pulp and paper industry are described.
