Course detail

Logic Control and Programmable Controllers

FSI-ELRAcad. year: 2007/2008

In the first part of the course students are provided with explanation of the logic functions and their relationships with two-valued control. Also dealt with is the realization of logic control while using combinational and sequential circuits, and integrated circuits applicable for realization of the logic control. The second part of the course familiarizes students with programmable logic controllers (PLC), hardware and software, as well as with applications of PLC.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will have an overview of design, minimization, implementation and testing of the logic control. They will able to solve and apply the logic control, especially with the help of programmable automatic machines produced in series.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have knowledge of automatic control and programming.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the practicals and gone through the laboratory tasks. Examination: The exam has a written and an oral part. Written part includes questions related to theoretical, as well as practical parts of the course, oral part includes discussion of the answers and possible additional questions.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with logic control, i.e. with two-valued control and with usage of appropriate hardware for combinational and sequential control in the automation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

If a student misses a lesson, he/she can attend an alternative seminar to perform appropriate experiment.
