Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at pre-intermediate level.

Prerequisites

Course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at elementry level. They are expected to have the knowledge and skills corresponding to the course A2.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively, worked out assigned tasks and passed a credit test.

Aims

The aim of the course is to equip students for real-life tasks that arise in a wide range of technical occupations.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss 2 seminars. As long as the number of missed seminars is higher, additional condition may be set up by the teacher in justified cases in order to meet the course-unit credit requirements.

2. U1 - Coming and going, Requests and offers (Could/Can you...?, Do you want me to..?)
3. U2 - Spelling things out, Measurements, Decimal numbers
4. U2 - Defects (It doesn't have..., There are too many...)
5. U3 - Project planning, (Un)Countable nouns, compar. and super. adj.,Review and Remember U1-3
6. U4 - Gadgets, Cause and effect (If/When X happens, Y happens),Checking and controlling verbs
7. U5 - Explaining what happend, Past simple (regular/irregular verbs)
8. U6 - Troubleshooting questions, Repairs, Present continuous, Review and Remember U4-6
9. U7 - Wh-questions, take/last, Numbers, Time prepositions
10.U8 - Explaining rules (must, have to, need to), Identifying faults
11.U9 - Safety hazards, Instructions (should, could), Review and Remember U7-9
12.U10- Shapes, Defining by class, colour, size, etc.

Syllabus

Using Vector software (English Connections - Technical English D1 a English language library) the seminars in computer lab are intended to practise useful phrases from technical workplace and grammar.
