Design Project Development

FSI-YE2Acad. year: 2024/2025

Project Design Development focuses on the use of knowledge already acquired in the previous subject (Project Design Concept). This course emphasizes the next phase of the design process. At this stage, it is desirable to consider the initial production technologies and materials that will guide the student to finalize the design. During the semester, students complete an assignment focused on the design of a functionally more complex product with background material from the field. The result of the assignment is a drawing documentation, a presentation and a physical model of the proposed solution in an appropriate scale.

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of sketching techniques and design experience in industrial design.
Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of spatial creation, artistic composition and implementation of three-dimensional models.
Acquire design solutions for simple and more complex industrial products.
Understanding of functional, technical and technological aspects of the subject.
Knowledge of modeling software (e.g. Rhinoceros, 3ds Max) and graphics software (e.g. Adobe).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Requirements for earning credit:
Active participation in the exercises.
Submission of a fully developed project in digital form (poster, presentation, visualization) and physical form (poster, model) by the due date.
Requirements for passing the exam:
Successful defense of the project, in which the concept and the level of presentation of the results achieved are evaluated.
The resulting classification is determined according to the ECTS scale. In total, up to 100 points can be obtained.
Attendance is mandatory and controlled by the teacher, a maximum of two excused absences per semester are allowed. In case of long-term absence, compensation for missed classes is in the competence of the subject guarantor.

Aims

At this stage of the design process, students will focus on the part of the design process aimed at creating clearly defined variants of design solutions, taking into account the basic requirements of production, while maintaining the main functional parameters of the proposed product. Students will acquire knowledge of existing materials and production technologies, which they will be able to apply independently during the design process. The graduates of the course will be able to solve design and technical problems of a specific theme more complex, individually and in the form of teamwork.
Ability to create a product design based on the analysis and input documents.
Ability to objectively select a suitable material and production technology.
Ability to create a functional, manufacturable and usable final design.
Ability to work independently or in a team.
Ability to present the results using digital technologies and a design model.
