Vehicle Engines

The teaching of the course is focused on the current state and perspectives of further development of modern internal combustion and electric vehicle engines. The division of drive units for vehicles and their characteristic designs in terms of operational use and function is made. Basic concepts of vehicle engine control are also described. For internal combustion engines, the design of the piston group, connecting rods, crankshaft, engine block, cylinder heads, valve train, cooling and lubrication is described. For electric motors, the design and concept of batteries, electric motors, cooling and lubrication are described.

Entry knowledge

The student must have knowledge corresponding to the subjects of the theoretical basis of the FSI master's degree at BUT in Brno.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Credit: mandatory attendance in seminars, presentation and submitting the seminary work.
Examination is written or oral. Seminar thesis evaluation is part of the total evaluation.
Attendance in seminars is obligatory, checked by a teacher. The way of compensation of absence is solved individually with a subject garant.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic principles of the construction of vehicle engines, their individual elements, groups and aggregates.
The construction of vehicle engines is a multidisciplinary matter that combines knowledge from the fields of mechanics, thermomechanics, electrical engineering and materials.
The acquired knowledge enables an objective assessment of the specific construction of vehicle engines, both in terms of suitability for use in a vehicle, and also in terms of assessing the reliability and effects of its operation on the environment.
