Course detail

Basics of Anatomy and Histology

FEKT-BPC-ZAHAcad. year: 2023/2024

Foundations of anatomy are composed as a major morphological field of study with clinical notes for all types of Bachelor study, some chapters offer more detailed explanation – e.g. the locomotory system for physiotherapeuts, digestive system for the specialisation Nutrition, etc. Selected anatomical and clinical aids are demonstrated.
Foundations of histology provide an overview of the microscopic and submicroscopic structure of cells, tissue and organs. The knowledge of these issues is essential for understanding of the fundamental control mechanisms in human organism and for understanding of the functions of individual organs.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

5

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Department

Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University Brno (LF MU)

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of biology and eventually basics of chemistry at secondary school level.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The standard criterion is the exam in the form of the PC test. Final exam tests knowledge of the foundations of anatomy and histology and understanding of physiological and clinical perspective.
Laboratory exercises are mandatory.

Aims

To provide the students with the fundamental knowledge of the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the systems and organs of human organism, understanding of the hierarchy of the relationship: cell – tissue – organ – the whole organism.
The course participant is able to describe human organism and its macroscopic and microscopic structure included basic physiological aspects. He is able to apply this knowledge in different clinical disciplines with regard to the possibilities of specialized bioengineering interventions within the organ and system structures.
