Club Music 2

Club music of various genres is an area in which students and graduates of art and design schools are surprisingly often successful. The course offers an introduction to thinking about club music, its history, how its genres are shaped and transformed, what is "cool" and why, but it is primarily practical - focusing on students' own musical production and its development.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The following conditions are set for the award of credit:

active participation in class
preparation of a presentation on the chosen topic, practical output in the field of audio production.

Teaching takes place in the studio of the FFA Department of Audiovisual Technology in the hours determined by the schedule. Attendance is compulsory (2 unexcused absences allowed). Higher number of absences can be compensated by submitting an alternative assignment after agreement with the teachers.

Aims

This course is designed to help students deepen their own musical language, expand their understanding of the technological possibilities of club music production, from low cost DIY, to modular synth, DJing and live coding, and how they interconnect into complex systems. The emphasis is on the accessibility of the instrument, freedom in the possibilities of expression and awareness of context.

Students will expand their prerequisites for creating electronic music, especially knowledge and skills related to hardware and software tools. The deepening of competences for musical practice will be accompanied by the ability to theoretically reflect on their own work.

Syllabus

The outline marks the axis on which we can freely move the topics, open them, leave them and later return to them as needed. It defines broader headings that serve as a starting point for practical exercises.

DJing and hybrid DJing with HW.
Live performance software.
Creating and operating HW and SW chains/environments (midi, osc, cv, tuning, etc.).
Ïnspiration sources – search, review.
Live versus studio, the space between.
Scene ecosystem, communication, presentation.
