Course detail

Analog Technology

FEKT-BPC-ATEAcad. year: 2023/2024

This course continues and supplements the findings gained in the Electronic elements and Electrical engineering. It focuses specially on given applications and realization of chosen linear and non-linear functional blocks. It provides an overview of different types of operational amplifiers and introduces other active elements, e.g. transadmittance amplifiers, voltage and current followers.
During laboratory classes students will design chosen functional blocks and perform their analysis.

Entry knowledge

Secondary school level knowledge and intermediate level of English are required.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Final exam evaluates the student's knowledge of terminology and general usage of analogue functional blocks in current electrical technology.
Up to 40 points for the activity during the semester.
Up to 60 points for credit test.
The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.

Aims

The aim of this course is for the students to master knowledge of analogue functional blocks and their usage in current electronic technology.
The student will get acquianted with basic functional blocks and analogue active elements that are essential for pre-processing of analogue signal before its conversion into the digital form or for post-processing after conversion of digital signal into analogue one. Based on the knowledge gained the student will be able to analyze the functionality of analogue systems and their application possibilities.
The student is able to:
- describe the basic steps in the design process of analog circuit,
- design and verify the basic building blocks of analog integrated circuits (transistor amplifiers, DC power sources, oscillators, AD and DA converters),
- verify basic parameters of the structure of the operational amplifier and OTA,
- describe the basic principles of AD and DA convertors.
