Towards a post-artistic practice 2

FaVU-CESTY2Acad. year: 2020/2021

The course will introduce students to selected tools how to interconnect the basic theoretical foundations of post-art and user turn in art (discussed in the course Towards post-artistic practice 1) with specific models and practical examples of sustainable creative practice in the current political and economic situation with taking into account the specific region of Central Europe. At the same time, however, the course will also focus on thinking about systemic alternatives, developing political imagination, prefigurative practice and discursive cracks. The course is designed to speak to students of all disciplines, including the so-called traditional media.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course aims to contribute to the relief from anxiety-causing or stereotypical concepts of art, i.e. talent, creativity, renunciation, fame, success. It also tackles a pressure on “usefulness” of one's own work, especially through the development of critical thinking, discursive analysis and selected examples from the practice of post-art and practical workshops. At the same time, the course encourages students to become aware of their relationship to art education and professional artistic practice after completing their formal studies.

Prerequisites

The course does not require any specific knowledge and skills. Experience with one's own art practice and openness to critical thinking together with knowledge of the English language is welcomed.

Aims

The course is a continuation of Towards post-artistic practice 1, and it focuses mainly on practical tools of post-art and its alternative economic and operational models. The course should lead to a reflection on more sustainable professional artistic life and success of the art student, but especially of a graduate of art college to be, and offer her a wide range of alternatives to be with art in a fulfilling relationship outside categories such as winner and loser.
