Ergonomics of sport and physical activities

Ergonomic principles were established in order to protect human health and safety. In sport, the quality of performance is regarded too. To meet these requirements, it is essential to distinguish specific risk factors in the sport discipline and to find effective way of performing the acitivity with respect to individual physiological limits and abilities. In the course, the students will learn to understand the ergonomic principles, their application in sport activities and with the procedure in risk factors identification.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Abolvents are able to construct the checklists and other tools of investigation of the risk factors in sport and physical activities. They are able to analyze the data and suggest a procedure to eliminate the risk factors or minimalize their influence. Thus, they create a potential to protect the health of persons involved as well as enhance and sustain the quality of performance of the athlete.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students will conduct an ergonomic audit in specific sport acitivity according to his or her choice. Oral and written report will be submitted.

9. Ergonomics of specific sport activities II - cycling, in-line skateing, scooters, nordic walking, in the gym, skiing, gymnastics, racket, bat or club disciplines, horse riding
10. Sport equipment and surfaces
11. Specific groups I - children and youth, seniors, pregnancy, after delivery
12. Specific groups II - physical limitations

The course focuses on the application of ergonomic principles in sport akctivities, both individual and team, with respect to the level and enhancement of performace and with the emphasis on safety and prevention of injuries.
