Cooling of Electric Machines and Equipments

FSI-9ESZAcad. year: 2020/2021

The course extends the view of the technical equipment of very often overlooked part of the overall design, which has a major impact on its reliability and efficiency. This is a cooling design that uses selected chapters from hydromechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. The main focus is on methods of cooling design and description of steady state and transient heat transfer. In particular, emphasizes the interaction of electrical, mechanical and thermal parts that describes the behavior of electrical machines or equipment. Particularly, emphasizes the interaction of electrical, mechanical and thermal parts that describes the behavior of electrical machines or equipment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students should manage theory of description of hydraulic and thermal systems, which appear in electrical machines and equipments. They can build mathematical models and solve it with the use of commercial systems. It will also be able to build a complex model of the interaction between electrical, mechanical and thermal parts. In addition, students get basic knowledge with measuring of temperature and air flow in electrical machines and equipment.

Prerequisites

Mathematics: linear algebra, matrix, function of one or more variables, differential and integral calculus, ordinary differential equations.
Basic knowledge of programming

Co-requisites

Aims

The goal is to provide knowledge and experience with design of cooling of electrical machines and equipments. The next aim is to provide knowledge that can be used for describing of thermal processes occurring in equipments which encountered in engineering practice.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Studies is designed in four lecture blocks and as individual with a successive definition of items in the recommended literature. The individual items are controled during consultations in intervals corresponding to the difficulty of the items.
