Safety and Protection Management

Management as a prerequisite for the function of any structure. The role and place of management in the management of an organisation. The principles of managerial decision-making, the execution of problem (situational) analyses, methods and forms. Relationships and contexts of managerial activities. Basic theoretical and professional knowledge of safety and protection management. Risks and their influence on technical accidents. Principles of risk management and management activities.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
After completing the subject, students will have a fundamental knowledge of management, safety and protection issues. They will be able to think in terms of presented concepts, principles and safety and protection categories. They will be able to better understand and partly know the essence of the management of these issues.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The tuition takes place in the form of lectures and seminars. The lectures focus on the explanation of basic principles, methodology of the given discipline, problems and their exemplary solution. Seminars support mainly practical mastery of the subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Knowledge and skills will be deepened and assessed in seminars and based on a credit assignment on a given topic.

1. Introduction and definition of the subject, its place and role, the systems understanding of the problem
2. The concept of management, its basic functions (planning, organization, management, monitoring), managerial competences
3. Information and its role in management processes, psychology in management, communication
4. Managerial decision-making - basic terms, problems and procedures
5. Managerial decision-making - selected basic methods
6. Risk management
7. Safety issues, their analysis and influence on the existence and management of organizational structures
8. The safety of technical systems, and the evaluation of levels of risk
9. Approaches to risk management at the management level
10. Organization of the protection of persons, technological units, property and the environment; its principles, elements and processes
11. Fundamentals of safe operation
12. Crisis management in company processes
13. Crisis and accident plans - contents, creation and their use
Aims
The aim of the course “Safety management of technical systems” is to acquaint students with the basics of general management and especially safety and protection management along with decision-making methods. Further, to create the conditions for the further development of this knowledge in general and especially in relation to crisis issues. Also, to enable students to understand the necessity of the issues and their importance for society.
