Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will obtain an overview and basic skills that they will apply in subsequent follow-up seminars and during the production of their semestral project, and in their Master’s thesis in particular.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through seminars that particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course is concluded by a credit; attendance at seminars cannot be less than 85% (for full-time study); the credit may only be granted by the teacher teaching this subject.

Course curriculum

The course is designed as a foundation module supporting the independent creative work of students on their semestral project and Master’s thesis.
• Organization of teaching, seminar objectives, credit requirements.
• Methods used in creative and scientific work.
• Information sources and their use.
• Ethical aspects of research
• Presentation of research results.
• Suggestions for the selection of the thesis topic, areas of expertise.

Aims

Students will learn the basic steps (procedures) necessary for the production of specialised academic work, such as a semestral project, a Master’s thesis or published research papers. After attending the seminar, students will have obtained basic knowledge in respect of copyright ethics (links, citing sources, etc.) and the quality required of academic research and professional work.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Block teaching – during the semester, the course is divided into monthly cycles or blocks of approximately 5 weeks. Consultation sessions are conducted during or after each teaching block. Learning materials are available on the subject’s website.
