Company Management

The course focuses on management and its development via modern approaches which are implemented in management today, and will be in the near future. Besides a short historical excursion, the approaches of acknowledged theoreticians and practicians will be introduced along with different approaches to modern management.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will be able to identify risks in a comprehensive manner, and analyse them critically. They will gain the ability to implement measures and evaluate the results in firms and organisations from the company management perspective.
Students will learn about the modern conception and application of management, including its historical context and the options related to leadership, time management, process management, and the application of some management models.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Tuition takes place via lectures and seminars. The lectures focus on the explanation of basic principles, the methods of the given discipline, problems and example solutions. The seminars mainly support practical mastery of the subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Conditions for the award of the course unit credit:
1. Active participation in seminars during presentations and the subsequent discussion of seminar work.
2. Successful completion of a credit test.
3. Successful completion of a semestral project by an assigned deadline.
4. Successful completion of case studies.
Students have the opportunity to acquire points for:
- the individual semestral project
- the completion of tasks related to the course
- the completion of subsidiary tasks
- the credit test
Conditions for passing the exam:
The award of the course unit credit is a necessary condition for admission to the exam.
Knowledge of the taught topics and their practical application.
Form of examination: written and oral. An oral examination is set by the teacher if the result of the written part is unclear.

Aims
Students will learn both theoretical fundamentals and methodological approaches to management, covering fundamental terms, concepts, structuralisation and practical application – with a focus on risk engineering. The objective of the course is to recommend necessary approaches for management problem solving with a primary focus on business organisations.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Active participation in the presentation of the topics of seminar assignments, participation in discussions, a high-quality presentation of a semestral project on a given topic, knowledge test.
Attendance at lessons and seminars: 13x 4 hours (52 hours)
Continuous preparation for seminars (individual study of literature)

Final exam
In the case of the excused absence of a student from a seminar, the teacher can set an additional condition if appropriate. This is usually the submission of an additional written assignment.
