Civil and Commercial Law

The subject focuses on Czech general private law (civil law). This basically concerns general private personal and property laws, both absolute and relative. The content of the subject focuses on a general introduction to civil law, legal principles, facts in the legal sense, persons in the legal sense, including general personality law, an overview of legal entities, property laws and other rights in rem, including right of lien, inheritance law, contract law (including consumer law), and delict law (including claim law).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students should acquire:
- a general knowledge of Czech civil law in the international and community context
- basic specific knowledge of civil law with a focus on their fields of study (such as real estate and transportation claims law)

Tuition takes place in the form of lectures which present basic principles, the methodology of the given discipline, problems and example solutions.

3. Facts in the legal sense.
4. Persons in the legal sense, including the general rights of an individual
5. Overview of legal entities.
6. Property and other rights in rem, including right of lien.
7. Inheritance law.
8. Contract law, including consumer law and the status of an entrepreneur.
9. Delict law, including claims law
10. Peculiarities of legal regulations in business relations: entrepreneurs, business establishments, trade secrets, interpretation of law
11. Peculiarities of legal regulations in business relations: entrepreneurs, business establishments, trade secrets, interpretation of law - continued
12. Legal status, establishment, transformations and extinction of business corporations.
13. Special focus: the civil status of limited liability companies

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of Czech civil and commercial law for non-lawyers, with a special focus on their fields of study. It concentrates on general and private personal and property laws, both absolute and relative laws. The content of the subject focuses on a general introduction to private, international and European Union law, legal principles, facts in the legal sense, persons in the legal sense, general rights as an individual, an overview of legal persons, property and other rights in rem, inheritance law, contract law (including consumer law and the status of an entrepreneur), and delict law (including claims law). The subject also focuses on the business part of law, which is mainly devoted to special legal regulations governing business relations and also the position of business corporations.
