Academic Sources and Citations

The course is focused on FME students who are studying the third or higher degree. The course provides the information about searching relevant sources suitable for writing the thesis and about the citation principles.
Searching available sources is accompanied by evaluation of relevant professional information. The chapters about citations give the ethics knowledge about using the someone else's source and gives the attention to the citation of the sources which has been used. The course deals with electronics information sources and the way of using the citation manager Citace PRO.
The course is held in a distance form, through e-learning in Moodle. It uses exercises, videotutorials, testing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
The student should know after graduating:
- search and choose the relevant source of informations
- know and use professional information sources
- be able effectively use various searching engines
- evaluate the data quality
- make the citations for a different type of documents
- work with the citation manager
- understand ethical and legal standards which accompanied using the sources
Prerequisites
There’s no need to have any special or professional skills. This course is extension of the 2IV course - Information literacy. It adapts the teaching for the last degree of bachelor and engineering study.

The condition for finalization the course is fulfill all tasks at least 50 % and working out or submitting the final task.

Aims
This course is aimed at practical usage of information sources in writing the diploma theses and citations.
The aim is to teach the student to work with the available electronic information sources and make the citations for a different type of documents.
The course gives the information about the copyright.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
This course is lead in e-learning form. The faculty tutors check if the students has finished all of course's parts and the quality of processed or submitted tasks.
