Mechanical Design Project - Drives and Mechanisms
FSI-YS2Acad. year: 2020/2021
The course will provide an overview of machine parts used for power and rotary motion transmission. The course is focused mainly on the gear transmissions. Attention is paid especially to get understanding of their function and learn the methods used in their design process. The course integrates the knowledge acquired in theoretical courses of Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's degree programme, particularly in branches of materials science, mechanics and machine design.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
- Knowledge of the principle, calculation and use of the tooth gears and flexible transmission elements.
- Basic knowledge of principle and calculation of the shaft couplings, brakes and flywheels.
- Ability to apply gained knowledge to the design process of new machinery and equipment in creative way.
Students are assumed to have the knowledge of machine design, material science and mechanics of solids, which they have obtained in previous part of their study at FME. Knowledge of mechanical engineering design is expected according to course MECHANICAL DESIGN PROJECT - MACHINE ELEMENTS (YS1).
