Moisture maintenance and thermal-technical problems

Properties of water, equilibrium in water solutions, pH-factor, inorganic and organic substances dissolved in water. Hygric characteristic of building materials and the effect of moisture on the mechanical and thermal-insulation properties of building materials. Dimensional changes of building materials. Causes of water transport in capillary systems, co-operative of hygric-transport phenomenon. Chemism and biological processes in humid masonry. Measurement and classification of moisture, hygric recognition of buildings. Kinds of maintenance methods – mechanical, chemical, electro kinetics, aerial. Desalination of masonry, maintenance plasters, properties and criteria of their evaluation, life time. Protection against compressive water, water-proofing bands, hydrophobic agens. Water vapour diffusion and capillary transport in joints. Moisture propagation in punctual deteriorated materials. The Construction modification for risk elimination of internal condensation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage the transport processes of water in building materials, measurement of moisture and methods regarding the elimination of a moisture in buildings.

Prerequisites

Base of general, physical, inorganic and organic chemistry in the range of the subject BC01 and physics of building materials in the range of subject BC06.

2. Hygric characteristic of building materials and the effect of moisture on the mechanical and thermal-insulation properties of building materials. Volume changes of building materials.
3. Causes of water transport in capillary systems due to hygric-transport phenomenon.
4. Chemism and biological processes in humid masonry.
