Introduction to problems of the design and realization of metal load-bearing structures. Advantages and disadvantages of steel structures, state and perspective of branch development. Materials and range of structural elements. Principles and rules of steel structures reliability, method of permissible stress and limit state design philosophy. Design of steel structures with use of probability approach. Geometric and static characteristics of thin-walled open and closed cross-sections of members of steel structures. Joints of metal structures - principles of the design and structural design (bolted joints, frictional and welded joints). Tension members. Girders under bending - elastic and elastically-plastic action. Saint-Vénant torsion and mixed torsion of thin-walled members with open and closed cross-section. Stability and buckling load-bearing capacity of simple section members under compression. Buckling of compression members with composite and built-up section. Lateral-torsional buckling of girders in bending. Members under combination of bending and tension, and combination of bending and compression.
