Theory of Economic Sciences

The subject "Theory of economic sciences" is divided into two parts: Macro- and Microeconomics. Part Microeconomics pays attention to the rational behaviours of micro-economic subjects on the demand and supply side in dynamic changes. In particular the possibility of applying mathematic tools is emphasized. Part Macroeconomics is devoted to the advanced models of monetary and fiscal policy. The students will develop their knowledge from the master studies.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students should be able to understand the interdisciplinar character of economic theory and apply the gained knowledge to the area of his/her Ph.D. studies. Student will be familiar with advanced methods and tools of economic theory, which will support him/her to work in a creative way, argue his/her special standpoints, evaluate variants and make decisions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classes are organized in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials and self-studies.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The final exam is combined (a written test and an oral part). In both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics the lecturer takes into account a comprehensive knowledge of economic theories. The maximum number of points is 10 in each part of the final exam. Each student must obtain at least 7 points for taking the oral exam in both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.
The next requirement for the final exam is presentation of an assignment to a selected topic in both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. The assignment is worth of maximum 10 points.
In the overall assessment, the points of the assignment (weight 0.3) and exam (weight 0.7) are added.

The main objective of the course is enlargement of macroeconomic knowledge and intensifying of students' abilities in understanding and solving of actual economics problems.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
The attendance of students on seminars is monitored.
