Book Binding 2

FaVU-KV2Acad. year: 2020/2021

The course covers both ahnd-made and industrial book-binding. Gradually, students learn the practical and theoretical basics including polygraphic technologies while having aspects of graphic design in mind. They will learn how to use tools and machines in a boook-binding shop and they will learn about materials used in book-binding. They will learn about the possibilities of combining the various types of binding, materials, and further treatment. Thanks to this new knowledge, they will learn to combine graphic design wthe book-binding. The course includes work with Adobe InDesign, in which students will learn the basics of pre-printing preparation and document exportation. Due to their knowledge of polygraphy basics, students will be able to commission the production of printing materials and supervise the whole process from the first drafts to the finished product. They will also be able to assess the production possibilities and decide on the best and most effective technological procedure of production.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Lessons are held at the same time through practical and theoretical form. Students will learn the basic structure of the book and can handle describe its components. They learn how to manually bind bookbinding V5, V6, V7, V8. Students will become familiar with prepress and export document in Adobe InDesign. Acquainted with contemporary printing techniques, manual and industrial printing. Students from the practical mastery of bookbinding V1-V8, selects sub-theme on your own ride, which process learned bookbinding and the project will be implemented by means of books.

Prerequisites

Mastering the basics of bookbinding terminology of the field. Knowledge of the characteristics of paper. Ability adjustment of the book block V1, V2, V3, V4.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credits are awarded based on active participation in seminars and submitting practical output.

Course curriculum

Individual points in the warp and blend will not be discussed exactly in that order; are to some extent mutually penetrate.
1. Basic design of the book and its parts.
2. Printing materials.
3. Types of industrial relations.
4. Semi bond (V5)5th Folder (V6)6th stringing solid bonds with fixed plates (V7 and V8).
7. The current printing processes: flexography, gravure, offset, screen printing, digital printing, and other reproductive techniques.
8. Working with goldening machine.
9. Basic decommissioning of the site and export the document in Adobe InDesign.
10. Excursion.

Mastering the basics of bookbinding terminology of the field. Students should handle the adjustment of the book block V5, V6, V7, V8.
