Concrete Technology 2

Principles and organization of European and domestic standardization of concrete and the connected laws. High-strength concrete, recycling in road construction, gunite, architectural coloured concrete, classification of aggressive media, proposal of compositions and marking of concrete for these surroundings following the ČSN EN 206, recycled concrete. Vibrated and pressed concrete and fine-grained composites. Rheology of fresh concrete, modeling, rheometry, proposal of testing and utilization of self-compacting concrete. Reshaping and shrinkage of hardened concrete. Porous structure of hardened concrete. Manufacturing technology of porous and lightweight concrete and of dense concrete as protection against radioactive radiation. Processing of secondary raw materials for the preparation of special concrete, utilization of fly ash, slag and dust. Proposal of the concrete composition with respect to the durability against the effects of water, frost and chemical defrosting salts and aggressive liquid and gaseous media.
Lectures are supplemented by laboratory assignments in the course.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student would manage the goal of the subject by broadening the knowledge to new concrete types and their design methods, testing and application conditions, further to modern trends in concrete technology and also on concrete with special properties such as e.g. high-quality, high strength, self-compressing, light, heavy concrete and further concretes with increased endurance against aggressive surrounding.

Basic knowledge obtained in the course Concrete Technology I, especially concerning the properties of components for concrete manufacture, marking of concrete for normal and aggressive media, methods for designing concrete composition and for concrete testing, further information about lightweight building materials and processes of concrete degradation

Aims

Following the knowledge obtained in the course Concrete Technology I, the knowledge is extended by information about new concrete types and the methods of their design, testing and conditions of use. The aim is to inform the students about up-to-date trends in concrete technology and about concrete with special properties such as high performance, high strength, self - compacting, light and dense concrete and further about concrete with increased resistance against aggressive media.

Syllabus

1.Influence of different types of plasticizers on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete. The proposed composition concrete strength class C 25/30, the test Slumps for determining the consistency of fresh concrete. Production of test specimens (cubes 150 mm) to determine the density and strength of concrete at 28 d of age. 2.Influence of water-cement ratio on the consistency of fresh concrete and concrete compressive strength. Design of concrete composition with two types of plasticizers for the production of fresh concrete with a Slump consistency S3. Production of test specimens (cubes 150 mm) to determine the density and strength of concrete after 28 days. 3.SCC Self Compacting Concrete. The theoretical nature of all types of testing methods to verify the workability of fresh concrete and practical testing in laboratories. Mixing the concrete composition according to prescribed tests and settlement Slumps flow test, L-box, V-funnel test, Orimet + J ring test. 4.The proposed composition SCC on the specified value Slump flow 750 mm. Use of additives and effective plasticizers for concrete. Visual assessment and determining the consistency of fresh concrete. Production of test specimens for determining the compressive strength at the age of 7 and 28 days. Determination of physical or mechanical properties of specimens previous exercises. 5.SCRFCC Self Compacting Concrete with reinforcement. Design of concrete composition using two types of dispersed reinforcement (polypropylene fibers and steel fibers). Assessment of Slump flow test and L-box on the fresh concrete. Production of test specimens to determine the compressive strength and flexural strength. Determination of physical or mechanical properties of specimens from the previous exercise. 6.LWSCC Light Weight Self Compacting Concrete. Production of Self Compacting Concrete using lightweight aggregate Liapor in two fractions 0-1 and 0-4 mm. Execution of test-spill settlement and L-box on the fresh concrete. Production of test specimens to determine the compressive strength. 7.ULWSCC Ultra Light Weight Self Compacting Concrete. Production SCC using a foaming additive for the reduction of density of the concrete. Influence of additives on the density of fresh concrete, manufacture of test specimens for the determination of density and compressive strength after 7 days of curing. Determination of physical or mechanical properties of specimens from the previous exercise. 8.HSC High Strength Concrete. Based on the theoretical design of concrete composition using aggregates of higher density to obtain a compressive strength of more than 60 MPa. Determination of consistence of fresh concrete and manufacture of test specimens to determine the compressive strength. 9.Architectural concrete. Presentation of the most interesting buildings of modern architecture using modern types of concrete and their application in modern design (furniture, sculpture, jewelery, etc.). The creative activity of students in laboratories, manufacture of articles based on your own design using various techniques of production. 10.KSC concrete. The use of aggregate cements bonded to the underlying layer traffic engineering. The following three types of KSC mixtures and perform basic tests Proctor Standard. Based on the test determining the optimum moisture mixture. 11.Determination of physical or mechanical properties of specimens from the previous exercise. 12.
