Plumbing Systems

Basic principles of building services and plumbing. Criteria for hygienic facilities design. Fundamentals for piping installation within buildings. Choice of plumbing fixtures, traps, sanitary draw-of taps and flushing devices.
General principles of disposal of wastewaters from buildings. Hydraulics as applied to drainage systems. Choice of piping materials and accessories for drainage system. Designing and sizing of sanitary drainage systems and storm water drainage systems. Designing of ventilating pipes for sanitary drainage system. Backflow prevention. Building sewers and private sewage treatment plants.
General principles of potable water supply for buildings. Potable water demand. Choice of piping materials and valves. Designing of water supply system. Hydraulics as applied to water supply systems and pipes sizing. Statutory and private water supplies, pressure boosting, pressure reducing. Protection of potable water supply. Domestic hot water systems. Thermal insulations. Equipment for fire-water supply. Water service pipes.
General principles of natural gas supplies. Requirements for gas appliances placing. Designing and sizing of gas installation for buildings. Gas service pipes.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge about constructional systems of buildings, foundation, vertical, horizontal and roof structures, fundamentals of hydraulics - water flow in a closed pressurized systems and gravity flow systems, fundamentals of water supply and sewerage.

Aims

Students will understand general principles of disposal of wastewaters from buildings, potable water and natural gas supply for buildings. Students will be able to do standard designs of sanitary and storm water drainage systems, water supply systems and gas installations having in mind layout and construction of buildings, further they will be able to design service pipes for these installations. Students will be able to use this knowledge for complex design of buildings.
