Course detail

Diagnostic of structures

ÚSI-RTDIKAcad. year: 2019/2020

The course focuses on the causes of technical risks associated with continued operation of construction. Students will be familiar with factors that can affect the quality and reliability of building structures - the repair, maintenance, the decision to demolish. Introduction to testing of structures (in testing, in situ). Classes will be supplemented by practical demonstrations of testing, preparation of sampling plan design and ensure its representativeness using a simple tool qualification quantifying the risks and danger - based on the assumption of minimizing systematic errors of the survey. Attention to the most common mistakes contractors and their prevention. Interpretation into account the ecological and aesthetic function reconstruction and repair and in particular to protect the completed works against negative environmental influences.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain specialized and professional knowledge and skills in area of destructive and non destructive testing of materials. Students will be able to realize diagnostics methods used for material properties detection in various types of structures. Based on acquired knowledge the student will be able to choose the optimal method for given diagnostics task. They learn to evaluate structural failures. They will get an overview of the properties of materials used in the past.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Goniometric functions, units of physical quantities and their transfers, the fundamental laws of physics, mechanics of bodies

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The form of verification of the study results is written (test) and oral. The condition of the completion of course is attendance at the laboratory sessions, submission of writing reports and advocacy of group seminary paper on the topic: Draft of survey of the building.
