Application of risk analysis methods in forensic engineering

The subject is aimed at gaining professional knowledge and skills in the field of identification, analysis and evaluation of risks used in forensic engineering. The attention will be focused especially on the methodology of risk analysis, the use of the selected methods as an important tool in expert activities, analysis and data processing for the purpose of processing expert opinions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be well oriented in the issue of risk analysis, will be able to apply the acquired special skills and knowledge, based on a system approach they will be able to choose and apply appropriate methods of risk analysis, secure and analyse input data and process the obtained results for the needs of forensic engineering practice, including the suggestion of a solution.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to risk analysis, definition of basic terms, legislation, the importance of risk analysis in forensic engineering practice.
2. A system approach to risk management, identification of risk sources, classification, evaluation and risk reduction.
3. Importance of input data and processing of obtained results, including their verification.
4. Qualitative methods of risk analysis.
5. Quantitative and semi-quantitative approach to risk analysis.
6. Possibilities of application of risk analysis methods in decision making process in expert practice.
7. Selected methods of forensic engineering analysis and possibilities of using risk analysis methods.
8. Possibilities of using multi-criteria evaluation based on the application of risk analysis methods while determining the amount of damage.
9. The assessment of damage caused by acute and chronic risks in the selected areas
10. The prediction of potential damage arising from anthropogenic, natural or technical influences.
11. The issue of black swans and phenomena associated with them.
12. The use of risk analysis methods in evaluation in the selected areas.
13. Supporting software tools for modelling emergency impacts and their use in forensic engineering.
