Modern Technology of Silicates
FCH-BC_MTSAcad. year: 2019/2020
Production and hydration of Portland clinker. Properties and different types of cements. Characterization of concrete, special types of concrete (HPC, RPC, MDF, fibre-concrete). Geopolymers - alkali-activation and immobilization of toxic materials, usage possibilities. Nontraditional ceramic materials.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
oral presentation, oral and written exam
Language of instruction
Modern study methods of silicates materials
Cement - raw materials and technology of Portland clinker production, clinker phases and their hydratation, setting and hardening
Concrete - durability, role and types of aggregates, chemical admixtures
Special types of inorganic binders (HPC, RPC, MDF)
Nontraditional ceramic materials (refractories, ceramic materials for heterogenous catalyses and fuel cells, photocatalyses, bioceramics, phosphate binders)
You will understand the causes of cement hardening, get an overview of special types of concrete, familiar with other types of inorganic binders and ceramics materials, you will be able to explain the nowadays so popular phenomenon: geopolymer and last but not least you will have the knowledges about testing silicate materials with the most modern techniques with which surely encounter at our faculty during your study.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Implication in oral presentation is voluntary.
