Chemistry and Technology of Polymer Materials

Basic therms and dividing, rubber and plastis technology, separate precesses, materials, machines and equipments, energy requirments, prehandling of materials for processing, calendering, extrusion, moulding, fastening, surface finishing ,ect. Chemistry and processing of reactoplastics is subject of teaching.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available for students.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Examination of subject is oral by the lectures themes. Paper on task theme need to be prepared and presented during examination.

Course curriculum
1.Production of polyethylene and polypropylene using coordination polymerization, copolymerization with alpha-olefins. Radical polymerization of ethylene. Production of copolymers - EPDM, EPM.
2.Production of polystyrene using bulk polymerization, foamable an foamed PS. Production of copolymers: HIPS, SAN, ABS, ASA. Anionic and live polymerization.
3.Production of PVC by suspenzion, emulsion and bulk polymerization. Plasticated PVC. Derivatives of polyvinylchlorid - PVDC, CPVC. Fluoroplastics - PTFE, PVF, PVDF.
4.Suspension and emulsion production of polyvinylacetate, polyvinylpropionate. Production of polyvinylalchole, polyvinylacetales. Polyvinyletheres.
5.Production of acrylics polymers and copolymers, methacrylics and derivatives. Bulk and emulsion polymerization -production and chemistry of acrylics coating materials. Polyacrylamide, polyacrylonitrile, polycyanuracrylates binders.
6.Production of polyethers - polyethyleneoxide, polypropyleneoxide, polyphenyleneoxide, phenoxy-resins, polyetheretherketon.
7.Production of polyacetales-polyoxymethylene. Production of polyesters - PETB, PBTP, PC, chemistry of alkydes. Production UP and curing methods of UP.
8.Production of polyamides by hydrolytic and anionic method. Production o polyimids. Production of polysulphones.
9.Production and processing of phenoplastics and aminoplastics.
10.Chemistry and technology of silicones.
11.Production and curing of epoxide resins. Plastification o EP, reactive and non-reactive diluents.
12.Unsaturated polyester resins, vinylester resins - structure, properties, production, processing methods.
13.Production and application of polyurethanes. Influence of monomer structure on PUR properties. Catalytic systems, extenders. One- and two-components PUR coating systems, PUR binders, PUR foams. PUR elastomers.
14.Processing of natural materials based on celulose.
15.Reactive modification of polymers: grafting with polar monomers, ionomers. Reactive aditives - coloring, antioxidants, flame retarders, fungicides etc.
Aims
The subject of the lecture-course is given to apprise the students with several types of polymer processing in the relation to basic material properties. The target of course is a realtion between
processing – structure of polymer for particular types of proceeding a ability to define material requirement for given technology on engineer principle.
