Human Biology

Introduction into anatomy and human physiology, principles of interdisciplinary communication of an engineer and a medical doctor, basic special terminology and function of the particular systems and organs. Review of cellular level of living organisms, morphology and function of blood, circulation, respiration, urinary system, endocrine system and nervous system.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Participatan will be able to:
- List and define the basic anatomical terms,
- Communication with medical staff,
- Describe the general structure and function of cells,
- Describe the basic principles of physiological systems of the human body,
- Apply these principles in the interpretation of measured signals and data,
- Describe the principles of investigative methods of nervous system and the senses,
- Describe and apply the model of aortal elasticity model.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge of biology of man and the knowledge of basic princips of medical technology in the field of electrokardiography, electroencephalography, electromyography and blood flow is requested.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Techning methods include lectures and practical laboratories. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system. Students have to write a single assigments from each practical laboratory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit on practicals (maximally 15 points), evaluation of laboratory work (maximally 25 points) and examination (maximall 60points). The test aims to prove knowledge of basic medical terminology and the structure and function of body systems.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the nature of the physiological processes in the human body and the basic knowledge of human biology. The course is aimed to engineers who specialize in medical devices.
