Studio I - Environment - winter

Within the course students learn to search for their own artistic attitudes in response to contextual assignments which in this semester they formulate themselves for themselves mutually and this in a in a limited format of A4 zin. Students learn to critically discuss their own work in a broader context. They get acquainted with the theory of contextual art. The course provides them information about events in contemporary art and culture in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
In the winter semester of the first year of the bachelor's degree, students will learn to develop and critically evaluate their own artistic work; they will freely choose and apply the media of their own work. They will gain knowledge about site-specific art. They are familiar with contemporary cultural events.
Already within the admission process, students have demonstrated the authonomy of their artistic portfolio, which they have developed further. They are ready to react creatively to the tasks, to discuss their work. They reflect contemporary cultural events, orientate themselves in the history of art.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
To obtain credits, it is necessary to implement the assigned studio tasks, to edit the portfolio of your own work. 80% attendance at lectures is a natural necessity for graduation.
Language of instruction
1. Students bring tasks to themes mutually to be processed in the form of a colaborative zine, each of them responding to the task of the other, the only limit is the format of the magazine A4.

The studio work is continuously complemented with tutorials within the department or with external experts, with lectures, and field trips to exhibitions, and institutions in relation to the discussed problems.
Study of literature and texts related to site-specific and conceptual art is also an integral part of the program.
Students will be encouraged to acquire regular studio working habits, the ability to artistically respond to the project tasks; they will practice in a range of diverse media; they will learn to select and apply appropriate media of self-expression; they will learn to verbally grasp their own art work, formulate opinions; they will have an overview in contemporary cultural events in relation to art history as well as to non-artistic areas of interest.
