Research Methods in Economics

Students will be introduced by lectures with research methodology. Students will select concrete reserach problem and in the practice students will provide primary investigation. After the processing of research results into the project, this project will be defended due the presentation.

Students will learn to apply research methods in the practice and to use its in the dissertation thesis.

The students must to know to review the literutare.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In the course will be used lectures and seminars. In the lectures will be used clasic presentation and s.c. "participants centered learning" approach. In seminars will be used team work, research in the practice and presentation of research results.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students will be evaluated in three parts:
1. Evaluation of a written research project - a condition for granting the credit.
2. Evaluation of the e-learning course for publishing - a condition for granting the credit.
3. Execution of the test - condition for termination of the subject.

Course curriculum

1. Research in economics - scientific thinking, research process and its design, time research proposal, critical factors of the research process.
2. Determining the state of scientific knowledge, defining research goals and research questions, literary research, data sources and their evaluation.
3. Methods of data collection in primary research. Quantitative and qualitative approach. Methods of research triangulation.
4. Methods of collecting secondary data. Panel data, their characteristics, limits, limitations.
5. Processing of primary research data and their discussion.
6. Processing of secondary research data and discussion of research results.
7. Processing of research into a research project and preparation for the presentation of research results in scientific journals.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to teach students to aply research methods in the practice. The second objective is to use provided research in the dissertation thesis.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Education will be controlled during the semester after the completing research project and after the presentation.
