Learning outcomes of the course unit

The results of teaching of subject BC051 can de divided into several parts. The first one is knowledge on fundamentals of hydrochemistry and basic rules of microorganisms growth. It is followed by the technological part. Students will learn both at theoretical and practical levels chemical principals of technologies used at waterworks. Furthermore, they will understand chemical and biochemical principles of processes of municipal wastewater treatment and those of treatment of sludges, arising at municipal wastewater treatment plants.

Prerequisites

Inorganic nomenclature, basic organic nomenclature, basic chemical rules, theory of acids and bases, compilation of chemical equations, stoichiometric calculations, concentration and its expression, logaritms, fundamentals of differential and integral calculus.

Co-requisites

None.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Basic teaching methods in this subject are lectures and laboratory sessions. In the laboratory sessions, part of the session is usually aimed at calculations, part at practical schooling of analytical and technological methods.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The conditions of getting a credit are attendance at laboratory sessions in terms of study and examination regulations, protocols of all completed sessions, successfully passed written test and analysis of an unknown sample of water.
The exam is oral and consists of three issues: hydrochemistry, waterworks processes, technologies of waste water and sludge treatment.
