Physical Geodesy

Geopotential models, methods of geopotential model testing, tidal deformations, satellite altimetry, determination of Earth´s crust motions, determination of local vertical datum shifts, development of World Height System, gyroscopes and acceleroeters, integration of inertial and satellite systems, application of physical geodesy methods.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge of physical fundaments of geodesy. Overview of traditional and contemporary methods of physical geodesy. Acquaintance with contemporary techniques for determination of Earth´s physical parameters.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge of geophysics and theoretical geodesy.

Co-requisites

Special chapters of mathematics and physics, space geodesy.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures, practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at lectures is optional, but attendance at classes is compulsory.

Knowledge of physical fundaments of geodesy. Overview of traditional and contemporary methods of physical geodesy. Acquaintance with contemporary techniques for determination of Earth´s physical parameters.
