Learning outcomes of the course unit
The student gains improved knowledge of climatic zones over whole of the world with respect to operating of electrical and electronic devices and equipments. The student will be able to design materials, devices and techniques of their protection for unfavorable environment.
Prerequisites
The subject knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Techning methods include lectures, computer laboratories and practical
laboratories. Students have to write a single project/assignment during the course.

Requirements for accreditation:
Performance of all laboratory measurements and passing their reports. Min. 70% participation in theoretical (numerical) exercises.

Effects of water and moisture. Process of humidity´s rise in materials.
Corrosion. Microbial corrosion.
Effect of climate on organic and inorganic materials.
Atmospheric and temperature ageing of organic materials.
Laws of ageing.
Techniques of protection agains climate.
Impregnation and surface protection. Fungicides.
Protective coatings. Galvanic surface protection.
Enviromental testing procedures and equipments. Climatic chambers.
Tests of climatic resistence. Climatic tests in natural conditions.

Aims
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with climatic zones of the world, with effects of climate factors on properties of engineering materials, with techniques of materials and devices protection and with methods, which ensure the life-time of devices in unfavorable climatic and operating conditions.
